An Unexpected Visit

They'd been at it over a month now with still no sign of Dad. There had been hope once when an old acquaintance of John and Dean's called for help on another case and informed them that he found Sam's phone number by calling John's. Suddenly the phone that had given them nothing but disconnect redirects was now clicking over to voicemail in their father's voice informing people to call Sam if they needed help.

Sam had... not liked that development. Dean could understand why. Sam didn't have anything against helping people, but to have proof that their father was still out there and knew Sam was hunting... presumably knew Sam was looking for him... but, he was still staying out of communication? Dean could understand why that was upsetting. All he could do was keep trying to track the man down and hope when they did, Sam could get his answers.

They were in the middle of nowhere Illinois, Dean still recovering from his first and last airplane flight, when their hunt met with an unexpected snag. Dean walked into their motel room after sitting with Sam through his dinner to find their room occupied. A blond vampire was stretched out on Dean's bed, lounging. Inwardly, Dean started cussing colorfully while he pushed Sam as casually behind him as he could.

"Hello, Eric."

At least they hadn't managed to piss anybody else off, but the mention of the other vampire did make his expression strain a little. Just the idea that he was still out there somewhere, probably without anyone saying anything about how he'd nearly killed a human. "So think the vampires will leave you alone for awhile?"

"Hmm... good." Dean having to introduce himself like that? It was going to cut into even more of their time looking for Dad. He shifted a little, resting his chin against his palm as he looked across the table quietly. Still- he didn't think he could do it alone... didn't want Dean to go.

"How are those wounds healing up, Dean?"

"Good." Not like he liked seeing Dean hurt. He leaned on the table, fingers idly trailing to his neck. Didn't really know how to feel about Dean biting him now-- on one hand, he'd never lump his brother in with what happened last night and on the other, he just didn't know if he could make the offer so soon after that... even if he knew those wounds Dean had would be gone sooner if he did.

"Hey- is there... ah, is there anything else I should know about- vampire blood? Drinking it and everything." Now that it had been long enough that he figured he didn't have anything to worry about, he couldn't help the curiosity.

Dean feeding from him had never been that terrifying really--he trusted Dean, knew his brother wouldn't hurt him. Knew that still. Just- needed time to think about it. It hadn't exactly been okay to let his brother bite and drink from him considering the reactions it brought out in both of them anyway.

Right now, seemed like he might have had more pressing things to consider than whether or not he should tell Dean he could still drink from him. He pulled a face. "What do you mean--" That was just a little more invasive than he was comfortable with... considering how crappy he felt most the time now. "Can you feel now?"

And then there was that... "What do you mean? Weird how?"

The thing was-- as pissed as he was, he couldn't really... show it or be that way. He knew, rationally, that Dean had to make a choice last night, Sam knew he'd been about dead from that thing, but...

That didn't stop him from being mortified that Dean would know how he was feeling, that he wouldn't have that distance there anymore.

And then he was telling him he was going to be-- "What?" He let out an awkward noise, something close to a chuckle in disbelief. "I'm going to-- dude, you're... you're my brother. No." He felt skeevy enough the times his body had reacted a little too eagerly to being bitten, he did not need... that in his head too.

Sam leaned back, rubbing a hand over his face as he tried to get a grip on everything, nodding. Temporary... hopefully, it was all temporary. "Yeah... yeah, okay."

He let out a breath and dropped a hand, looking at Dean. "Feel like going out? Maybe grab some dinner..."

That'd be a lot better than sitting around, thinking about this crap. Figured Dean probably wasn't any more comfortable with it than him anyway.

"No, go ahead..." Sam's plan was to just--focus on work. He didn't need Dean picking up on his feelings... it wasn't hard to guess how he felt, he figured. He felt like crap, missed Jess, and yeah, there was the guilt there that he couldn't exactly explain to Dean. It was frustrating that as much as he wanted to keep some things to himself, he couldn't while Dean could feel whatever he felt if it was strong enough.

And then there was the whole attraction thing he wasn't looking forward to. Just needed to keep busy, that's all. While Dean got ready, he just got back on the computer--be better to find them a case soon.

Sam hadn't even... stopped to really think about what would happen when they found their dad. He knew- he wasn't letting John hurt Dean, not if he could help it. Dean didn't deserve that, he hadn't done anything and he was managing it. He didn't stop to think about what Dean would do either.

Sam was very pointedly not looking at Dean. He couldn't have any improper thoughts because of that blood or whatever if he didn't look, he figured and he didn't want to chance it to see if he even would think... things about Dean. Not right now. He got up to grab his jacket, slip back into his shoes since they'd be going out again.

"Yeah. Let's head out..." He climbed to his feet and headed towards the door. "I don't know what kind of place you're in the mood to go to... your choice though, as long as they have actual food."

Dean didn't need to eat, so it felt a little weird dragging him to a diner or something.

"You know- a bar's fine. I'm not really too hungry." And he wasn't. But he knew that Dean'd probably throw a fit if he didn't eat something, so he held up a hand to stifle any comments. "I have had food today."

He settled in the passenger seat, got comfortable as he looked out the window.

"Dude, I'm okay... really." He paused a little awkwardly, giving Dean a look before they slipped out of the car. He'd been bitching earlier, freaked out, but... "And- uh. Thanks for saving my ass back there, Dean. Would've been in a lot of trouble if you hadn't."

And that was definitely the truth, so even if he had to cope with some side effects he hated, he at least hadn't died by bleeding out, still had the chance to get revenge for Jess and heir mom, find Dad. He went to slip out of the car then because the place looked alright and it smelled like they were cooking something that actually smelled half-decent inside.

"Yeah... I know, Dean." He was about the only one who did right now and he appreciated the help, even if he didn't know what was going to come of all this.

He followed the other inside and settled at the table, looking around the place curiously. Wasn't that bad, as far as the places he was used to them stopping at went.

He ordered a beer, not really in the mood for hard liquor right now. He shrugged at the question, looking up. "Probably just grab a burger or something. So- you got any other business to wrap up here or are you set to head out tomorrow?"
