An Unexpected Visit
They'd been at it over a month now with still no sign of Dad. There had been hope once when an old acquaintance of John and Dean's called for help on another case and informed them that he found Sam's phone number by calling John's. Suddenly the phone that had given them nothing but disconnect redirects was now clicking over to voicemail in their father's voice informing people to call Sam if they needed help.
Sam had... not liked that development. Dean could understand why. Sam didn't have anything against helping people, but to have proof that their father was still out there and knew Sam was hunting... presumably knew Sam was looking for him... but, he was still staying out of communication? Dean could understand why that was upsetting. All he could do was keep trying to track the man down and hope when they did, Sam could get his answers.
They were in the middle of nowhere Illinois, Dean still recovering from his first and last airplane flight, when their hunt met with an unexpected snag. Dean walked into their motel room after sitting with Sam through his dinner to find their room occupied. A blond vampire was stretched out on Dean's bed, lounging. Inwardly, Dean started cussing colorfully while he pushed Sam as casually behind him as he could.
"Hello, Eric."

Dean was really glad that bond only went one way. Right now he was so full of self-loathing, he really didn't want Sam to have any part of it. His brother would have been a lot better of if he'd never come looking for him.
He shook his head slowly at Sam's reaction. "It's temporary. Shouldn't be more than a week or two. Just didn't want it to catch you by surprise."

He let out a breath and dropped a hand, looking at Dean. "Feel like going out? Maybe grab some dinner..."
That'd be a lot better than sitting around, thinking about this crap. Figured Dean probably wasn't any more comfortable with it than him anyway.

He got up to rinse out the empty blood bottle. "You in a hurry, or mind if I grab a shower?"

And then there was the whole attraction thing he wasn't looking forward to. Just needed to keep busy, that's all. While Dean got ready, he just got back on the computer--be better to find them a case soon.

When he couldn't stand the water any longer, he shut it off, climbed out and dried off. The towel wrapped around his waist as he wandered out to get dressed.

Sam was very pointedly not looking at Dean. He couldn't have any improper thoughts because of that blood or whatever if he didn't look, he figured and he didn't want to chance it to see if he even would think... things about Dean. Not right now. He got up to grab his jacket, slip back into his shoes since they'd be going out again.

"Ready?" He asked as he got to his feet and pulled on his coat.

Dean didn't need to eat, so it felt a little weird dragging him to a diner or something.

He held the door open for Sam to go out first, then locked it behind them before he climbed into the driver's seat.

He settled in the passenger seat, got comfortable as he looked out the window.

If Sam wanted a bar, though, he'd find them a bar. He wasn't much in the mood to argue and as long as Sam was eating something, he couldn't complain too much.
He pulled into the parking lot of a place that looked promising. A fair number of cars were already parked outside and he could smell meat cooking inside. Good enough.

And that was definitely the truth, so even if he had to cope with some side effects he hated, he at least hadn't died by bleeding out, still had the chance to get revenge for Jess and heir mom, find Dad. He went to slip out of the car then because the place looked alright and it smelled like they were cooking something that actually smelled half-decent inside.

Nothing was going to change that. Even if Sam decided to haul ass after they found Dad and finished their mission, he'd still want to look in on him from time to time. Make sure he was okay. At least for now, being a monster didn't mean he couldn't still be Sam's big brother.
He headed inside and asked for a table for the two of them.

He followed the other inside and settled at the table, looking around the place curiously. Wasn't that bad, as far as the places he was used to them stopping at went.
