An Unexpected Visit
They'd been at it over a month now with still no sign of Dad. There had been hope once when an old acquaintance of John and Dean's called for help on another case and informed them that he found Sam's phone number by calling John's. Suddenly the phone that had given them nothing but disconnect redirects was now clicking over to voicemail in their father's voice informing people to call Sam if they needed help.
Sam had... not liked that development. Dean could understand why. Sam didn't have anything against helping people, but to have proof that their father was still out there and knew Sam was hunting... presumably knew Sam was looking for him... but, he was still staying out of communication? Dean could understand why that was upsetting. All he could do was keep trying to track the man down and hope when they did, Sam could get his answers.
They were in the middle of nowhere Illinois, Dean still recovering from his first and last airplane flight, when their hunt met with an unexpected snag. Dean walked into their motel room after sitting with Sam through his dinner to find their room occupied. A blond vampire was stretched out on Dean's bed, lounging. Inwardly, Dean started cussing colorfully while he pushed Sam as casually behind him as he could.
"Hello, Eric."

Not that he was one to talk about lack of rest... he had to be thoroughly exhausted anymore to get a full night's rest... and it typically wasn't too restful.
-Or well, admittedly, Dean feeding on him could be an oddly nice enough distraction to convince himself to sleep too, but... coupled with the side-effects of the vampire blood? He seriously doubted Dean wanted to be near him, especially like that. It was awkward enough when Dean hadn't been able to feel what he felt or... well, there was the attraction crap too.
Which he was very pointedly not letting himself dwell on. Easier to do when he had his mind wrapped around tracking Dad down or a case. At least it looked like they had a case right here though and while Dean got washed up, Sam gathered up what he had on the case for the other.

Dean would have gladly taken blood from Sam if he thought for a second his brother was still willing, but between the vampire attack and Sam's reaction to the blood side-effects, he figured that was a lost cause. He was pretty sure Sam was just about thoroughly disgusted with him. Which, really, he had good reason to be as far as Dean could see.
He disappeared into the bathroom to wash off the blood and trunk gunk, letting himself soak up the warmth of the hot water a while. That was another thing he missed desperately now that he wasn't feeding regularly. That temporary warmth. Feeling of being alive, just for a minute.
Pointless to dwell on it. Dean shook off the funk and finished up before turning the water off and stepping out, drying off, and wrapping the towel around his waist to go back into the bedroom and get dressed.

Dean... couldn't ever really be lumped in with the vampire who tried to kill him anyway. Maybe he was an idiot, but he wanted to believe Dean was the same, at least for the most part. Wanted to believe he'd never hurt him intentionally, that he could manage... what he was now.
But right now wasn't the time to bring it up. He looked up when Dean walked out, eyes lingering for a brief moment longer than they should before he looked away. "So, get this... the guy's eyeballs had exploded. They blamed a stroke, but... that definitely isn't a common symptom. I talked to the guy's family too and didn't get too much to go on besides the daughter telling how before her dad died, she'd been playing that Bloody Mary game. Thought it was her fault."
He sighed. That was a little too far-fetched though, even for them, right? There wasn't any proof that it was real... "Read over what I got. Tell me if you think this is just a freak medical occurrence, dude, because I don't know."

"Doesn't look medical. I dunno if I buy the Bloody Mary deal, but it's definitely not something natural. People's eyes don't just explode." He went to the microwave when it beeped and pulled the blood out, shaking it and downing half in one go. Didn't help much, but it was something.

He shrugged. "Guess we have to look up stuff on Bloody Mary, right? Maybe see if anything else has happened around here that's been strange."

He nodded at Sam's suggestion. "Anything else weird would help."

"For now, let's see what we can dig up on the computer."
no subject
"I'll take the first crack at the computer, if you want."

Sam did nod at the offer though. "Sure, yeah."

He pulled out the chair across from Sam and pulled the computer over to him. Started to poke around for more information while he drank the blood.

While Dean did that, he moved to stretch out on the bed, folding his hands over his stomach. No way in hell was he going to try for more sleep, but he was just resting up a bit, thinking. About the case, about... other things. Other things were easier to approach than the case he didn't have any idea about yet.
He shifted, folding his arms behind his head, looking over at Dean. "You know, Dean- if you still... want- or need my blood, you can..." He made a vague gesture there, shrugging. He knew TrueBlood didn't always work the same way as human blood, from what Dean had said. "I don't mind, really. I'd, uh, understand if you don't want to though. Just wanted you to know."

When Sam spoke again, he looked over. Tried not to look too interested. He wanted it bad, but he was afraid Sam was just offering because Dean looked bad. Not because he was really okay with it.
"You don't have to do that, Sammy. I don't wanna make you uncomfortable." Still much rather it be him hurting than Sam.

He bit his lip and looked down at the mostly empty bottle in his hand. He could drink them all day, but never feel better. He nodded and looked back over at Sam. "It would... help, if you're sure."
no subject
"It's okay, Dean."

He got to his feet and walked over to where Sam was laying and sat down on the edge of the bed. Reached a hand over to rest on his brother's shoulder a minute and then leaned down to press his lips to Sam's neck. His fangs ran out and he pierced the skin as gently as he could, then drank slowly from the wound. Breathed a sigh of relief and comfort as he leaned into Sam's warmth.

He let his hand continue to rest on Sam's shoulder, thumb rubbing lightly against it just because he felt good and didn't think about doing it. The little sounds Sam made sounded pleased or at least relaxed, so he let himself relax and enjoy the rush of warmth and the way the pain from the day faded.

This was entirely different from that other vampire. Sam wasn't scared for his life, didn't feel like his throat was possibly being ripped out or something. Dean was always careful, so he wasn't worried. His hand drifted down the other's arm, lightly rubbing along the length of it, not really putting much thought behind the gesture.
