Underground Catacombs

The Catacombs Deep beneath the city is a vast network of tunnels. Rough hewn stone walls mark the lengths of tunnels closer to the surface, bare of adornments save for the occasional web built by an adventurous spider or scattering of small rodent bones. The deeper tunnels are colder, temperature dropping by dozens of degrees; the smoother walls can feel like ice. And the deeper they go, the more elaborate they become. Slabs are cut from the walls in some sections leaving shelves where the remains of cloth-wrapped bodies lay in repose. A large dome-shaped chamber lies at the end of one such tunnel. The ceiling is exceptionally high, giving strange acoustics to any sound within. The chamber walls are broken only by the entryway and are tiled entirely with skulls -- thousands of skulls, most are human sized, but not all of them human. They reach nearly to the ceiling, leaving just a small circle of plain stone at the very top. The only currently known entrance to the catacombs lies under the haunted house inside the Amusement Complex, but there could be dozens more... [unmapped]
