"From what you said, it wasn't your choice to leave," he murmured, eyes staying trained on his brother's face. "And... you couldn't have done something for Jess." Maybe he could have, if he hadn't been so damn desperate to just be normal, to hang on to her, but...
"... Dean, it's not like that. I knew what the risks were when I went with you. Accidents happen in our line of work." Wasn't like Dean led him down there to be vampire food...
"You're here for me, Dean... that's better than Dad at least. I left Jess to go look for him and he... he couldn't even call after she died. Didn't even call to make sure I was alright when I could have burned up right with her. You- hadn't even been around me, didn't even know Jess, but you dropped everything to come with me at least."
And yeah, they got frustrated with each other, had things to work out, but that still counted for something. He was close enough to feel Dean's breath on his face when he sighed out like that an almost wanted to draw back a little, get some distance between them because... yeah, little too intimate, but he lifted a hand to rest on Dean's shoulder, squeezing it. He'd move in a minute, when he was sure Dean had calmed down. And if he teased or complained about chick flick moments after this? Sam was not going to be happy.
