It had been a couple of days since the other vampire attacked Sam, so he didn't think he'd be endangering Sam now. Especially not after Sam had taken his blood. The recovery time should have been almost instant.

He let his hand continue to rest on Sam's shoulder, thumb rubbing lightly against it just because he felt good and didn't think about doing it. The little sounds Sam made sounded pleased or at least relaxed, so he let himself relax and enjoy the rush of warmth and the way the pain from the day faded.
